WORLD WATER DAY

WHAT IS WORLD WATER DAY?

Set on 22 March every year, World Water Day is all about the importance of, well, water! This year’s theme is ‘Nature for Water’ — an exploration of nature-based solutions to the water challenges we face in the 21st century.

Damaged ecosystems affect the quantity and quality of water available for human consumption. Today, 2.1 billion people live without safe drinking water at home, affecting their health, education and livelihoods.

GLOBAL WATER FACTS

  • Globally, over 80% of the waste water generated by society flows back into the ecosystem without being treated or reused. (Sato et al, 2013)
  • Over 1.8 billion people drink from water sources contaminated with faeces, putting them at risk of contracting cholera, dysentery, typhoid and polio. Unsafe water as well as poor sanitation and hygiene cause around 842,000 deaths each year. (WHO/UNICEF 2014/WHO 2014)
  • The opportunities from harnessing waste water as a resource are enormous. Safely managed waste water is an affordable and sustainable source of water, energy, nutrients and other recoverable materials.

WHY CUCKOO CONCERN

We at CUCKOO have always promised to bring you water that is beyond standards. This World Water Day, let us contribute to the global effort of water conservation by making every drop in our daily lives count! Research indicates that an average of 18.92 L of water is wasted each time we brush our teeth with the water running, which amounts to nearly 30 L of water each day — equivalent to the daily water intake of 12 adults!

Let’s put a stop to the waste together.

Take a PHOTO/VIDEO of you pledging to save water by brushing your teeth using just 1 GLASS OF WATER.

Post it on Facebook/Instagram on 21 March with #CUCKOO and #EveryLitreBitCounts.

On 22 March, brush your teeth using just 1 glass of water — it’s tougher than you think!
